Abstract

[eng] Abstract The article « introduction to the study of the group of Spanish military engineers in the eighteenth century » deals mainly with three themes. At first, the evolution of this elitist group and of techniciens, serving for the benefit of the army and for the development of the country, created in 1711 by Philip Vth on the advice of Georges Prospère Verboom. This evolution is caracterized by various charges all though the XVIIIth century then by the transformation of the group of Génie in regiments of pontoon soldiers in the XlXth century. So, is rubbed out the gap which separated the engineers from the other soldiers. Beside, the article calls out the formation of cadets in military academies where they study during three scientific subjects, art and architecture so that they can take an exam to enter the group. This exam consists in the achievement of a projet work on modern fortification like Vauban's. At last, the third theme dealt with, is a study of the « musts » which rule the matrimonial behaviour of engineers : how to get a royale licence permitting the wedding, the choice of a wife from a noble or middle class family and catholic in her faith.
