Abstract

[eng] Abstract This article is a summary of my three years thesis, a sociological and psychological study of factums (or barristers memoranda) written in France during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. These factums are printed documents (they can be from two to over hundred pages long) that report the causes of a trial. I have analysed a sample of two hundred documents from the extensive holdings (some fourty two thousand documents) in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. I conclude that these documents are a reflect of this age topics and sometimes care little about preconceived notions or taboos so that they bring a very useful contributions to the history of mental habits.
