Abstract

[eng] Abstract In all likelihood, the bordelaise nobility — a dynamic group of more than 800 families — underwent a quantitative fall during the Revolution. Indeed, in 1831, half of the names disappeared from the list of electors : the departures, the deaths because of events, without counting biological extinction which seems important, explain this historical fact. However - in spite of this numerical collapse minimized by a new nobility and arrivals — nobility got again its social and political pre-eminence during the Restauration. They became mayor, « conseiller général » or deputy, people reconstituted vineyards because riches were more and more invested in real estate. By seeing fiscal lists, nobility's economic power seemed equal in value to that of trade. The quick and relentless decline only began with « la Monarchie de Juillet ».
