Abstract

[eng] For about twenty years industrial firms have been making better and better forecasts concerning their investments and turnover - An increasing number of industrial firms make yearly forecasts concerning their investments. But forecasts are increasing even more rapidly in such domains as turnover, employment, self-financing, etc. However there are few industrialists who make forecasts wich project their firms several years ahead. . Forecasts are far superior in quality to what they were twenty years ago. Their accuracy has improved more for investments than for turnover. However, over the last ten years it has become easier to make forecasts due to a more stable economic environment: industrial investments have dropped, industrial production stagnated until 1 987 and inflation has slowed down. Large firms make better forecasts than small ones. Mistakes in forecasts differ largely from one firm to another, particularly for investments.
