Abstract

[eng] Leaves of Absence. 16 Days a Year for a Factory Worker, 3.5 Days a Year for an Executive - According to the survey, 'Structure des salaires' conducted in 1986, salaried workers in the private sector were absent from work for approximately 1 2 working days in a year, due of sickness, pregnancy, on-the-job injuries, or collective or personal reasons. Excluding maternity leave, women took only slightly more time off from work than men did. Whatever the motive, there were five times less absences from executives than from factory workers; however, the duration of the absence did not depend on a person's level in the hierarchy. Work related injuries brought about the longest leaves, on the average 23 days, but there were few of them. Disease also brought about long leaves, on the average 1 5 days, and they were frequent. Leaves for personal reasons lasted only a day in more than half of the cases. Si on omet les congés de maternité, les femmes ne s'absentent guère plus que les hommes. Quel que soit le motif, les cadres sont cinq fois moins souvent absents que les ouvriers ; cependant la durée de l'absence ne dépend pas du niveau hiérachique. Les accidents du travail donnent lieu aux interruptions les plus longues, 23 jours en moyenne, mais ils sont rares. La maladie justifie des absences longues, 15 jours en moyenne, et fréquentes. Les arrêts pour raisons personnelles ne durent qu'une journée dans plus de la moitié des cas.
