Abstract

[eng] One Declaration of Succession for Every Two Deaths - 267,000 successions were recorded in 1 984, that is 50 % of the deaths of people over 20. The percentage was higher for men that for women (respectively, 54% and 47 %). From 1977 to 1984, there was a sharp increase in the number of declarations of succession (it went from one death out of three to one death out of two), but the average amount staded decreased. Married or widowed people more frequently left an estate than single or divorced . Contrary to the number of successions, the number of successions, the number of donations diminished : in 1984, there were about 120,000 donation deeds, compared to the 1981 peak of 207,000 deeds. Half the donors were married men and slightly more than a quarter of them were widows.
