Abstract

[eng] French behavior concerning insurance - The risk of automobile accidents, theft, or fire, the threat to employment, income or health: most activities in daily life comport a certain risk whose consequences can be disastrous. In the face of uncertainty, the signing of an insurance contract is the response to complex individual motivations. It can also be analyzed as a social fact in the light of the socio-demographic characteristics of households. Thus, single people are systematically less insured than families. The most comfortable households are more insured than the poorest. And people insure themselves most often at the beginning and in the middle of the life cycle. Equally significant, the opposition wage-earners self-employed is of a slightly different nature: it is not so much the extent of protection as the type of protection that differs. It is difficult then to distinguish what is due to a behavorial difference from a simple effect of the availability of insurance.
