Abstract

[eng] Labor and Capital in the National Accounts by Jean-Yves COLLET, Henri DELESTRÉ, and Pierre TEILLET Labor activity, capital, partial or overall productivity of factors, intensity of capital, are defined and measured (whether in an equivalent manner or not) in most of the articles in this issue. This article will attempt to provide the reader with a common standard of reference, that of the national accounts. The definition of these different magnitudes, the methodology used to compute them in the national accounts, as well as an analysis of their evolution over the past twenty years, is provided. The concepts arrived at through ratios of productivity and of substitution of factors are highly controversial. The national accountants are themselves aware that the approach which they propose is but one of several, their own. In this spirit, a critical reflexion is presented in the form of a survey of the main statistical problems posed both on the conceptual and practical level.
