Abstract

[eng] Executives and their degrees by Michel CÉZARD . The following information is based on an analysis of the distribution of people with degrees among various social and professional groups. Two thirds of those who went on studying after the « baccalauréat » and almost all those who have a « licence » became high ranking executives. However, whereas men are distributed among various types of posts, women with degrees almost always become teachers. . Only about half the high ranking executives have a degree : most teachers and members of the professions have a degree, but many engineers and administrative executives are self-taught. They usually become top level executives in the course of their career, which is one of the reasons why older engineers and administrative executives have less degrees than young ones. However this type of promotion only concerns men. Medium level executives have a lower probability of becoming high ranking executives than people with degrees who are not yet executives. Finally jobs in which self-taught people are found are less often director's posts.
