I.N.S.E.E. has introduced, from the beginning of 1971, new retail price Indexes, based on 1970. The three main innovations are : . • The distinction introduced between two indexes : one, the monthly index relates to the more modest urban population and will be more specially designed to follow up the 259 articles; the other, quarterly index affects the population as a whole and will be closely linked with the work on quarterly accounts; it may be the subject of revision;. • The extension of the field of the indexes to practically the whole consumption of households and the elimination of any unjustified divergence of their definitions from those of the national accounts; . • The annual revision of the coefficients of weighting in the light of the results of the consumption accounts. . The weighting for food will be 31.5 % in the monthly index in 1971 compared with 42.8 % in the old index.
