Abstract

[eng] In a coming issue of « Collections de l'I.N.S.E.E. » (série M), complete results will be published concerning the econometric models which are presently used in the detailed forecasts of household consumption. . These models have been fitted on the time series data of household consumption for the period 1949-1967, as they appear in the revised data of National Accounts. . On this paper we present the logic which governs this type of models. It is very similar to the work previously done by other authors, such as Professors K. Stone and M. Houthakker. A special effort has been made to distinguish short run from long run effects, providing us with models which are either appropriate for short run forecasts (say, for the yearly Budget) from other ones which are rather meant for medium term forecasts (say, for the Vlth plan, going to 1975).. In this paper, we do not go further than explaining the logic of consumption functions, and giving the main results concerning income and own-price elasticities. . As an illustration of the use to which such models can be put, a forecast of household consumption for 1985 is given.
