Abstract

[eng] The author records certain characteristics of the occupation of the French housing pool, according to a sample survey of housing in 1967. . At that date, the pool of principal residences, excluding agricultural housing, consisted of 14 million dwellings, of which 10 million were built before the War and 4 million after. 6.4 million dwellings were occupied by tenants, 5.7 million by their owners (of which 1.6 million by households in the process of repaying loans contracted for the purchase) and 1.7 million by persons housed gratuitously. . The proportion of owners increases with age and income. For equal ages, the proportion of owners is much greater in 1967 than in 1965. The influence of income is greater for young households. . Owing to the fact that a great many retired persons are owners, the proportion of low-income households is greater for owners than tenants. . The occupiers of dwellings built since the War are much younger than the others. They have relatively higher incomes. . Finally, the author inquires into the suitability of the size of the dwelling to the size of the household. He finds that it has improved between 1963 and 1967, and that dwellings have, on average, become slightly larger, except in the Paris Region.
