Abstract

[fre] En dépit de sa faible population l'Australie a réalisé un important effort de guerre. Ses ressources excédentaires en denrées agricoles ont été dirigées sur la Grande-Bretagne en vertu de contrats à long terme. La pénurie mondiale n'a pas encore permis l'abolition de ces contrats et actuellement encore la plupart des denrées agricoles sont achetées régulièrement par la Métropole. . La liquidation de la laine stockée pour les besoins de la Métropole a suscité de graves problèmes. . La vente quasi-automatique à l'étranger de la majeure partie de la production agricole ainsi que l'industrialisation que connait le pays depuis 1939 et qui lui a permis de réduire ses importations de produits manufacturés, ont permis à l'Australie d'acquérir une forte quantité de devises. . On estime toutefois que ces importants avoirs seront assez rapidement épuisés si l'Australie continue à développer l'industrialisation amorcée pendant la guerre et si elle veut assurer un niveau de vie décent aux immigrants qu'elle se propose de recevoir.
