Abstract

[fre] L'extraction du pétrole a été entreprise depuis cinquante ans dans le Moyen-Orient. Successivement en Iran, Irak, Egypte, et plus récemment dans la péninsule arabique, des gisements quelquefois très importants ont été découverts et mis en exploitation. Le rôle de ces pays dans l'approvisionnement du monde en pétrole est destiné à croître en importance et la période actuelle voit s'accélérer les vastes réalisations qui permettront aux pays producteurs d'aborder l'exploitation intensive des réserves pétrolières immenses qu'ils recèlent ; ces réserves n'ont été qu'à peine entamées jusqu'ici. La guerre a provoqué la multiplication des raffineries dans ces pays, et contrairement à ce qui se passait avant 1939, une très forte proportion du brut est aujourd'hui transformée en produits raffinés avant d'être embarquée vers les pays consommateurs. . Lorsque les travaux projetés seront terminés, l'ensemble des pays du Moyen- Orient deviendra probablement le premier exportateur de brut et de produits raffinés dans le monde.
