La main-d'œuvre frontalière dans le nord de la France

Abstract

[fre] Depuis plus d'un siècle, un nombre important de Belges vient travailler en France. A l'origine, ce mouvement se faisait sous forme d'immigration, mais bientôt il se transforma en un mouvement frontalier : le travailleur belge venait occuper un emploi salarié en France mais continuait à habiter en Belgique. Le frontalier est susceptible de bénéficier ainsi d'un avantage, d'une part vis-à-vis du travailleur habitant la France si le coût de la vie est inférieur en Belgique, d'autre part, sur le salarié travaillant en Belgique si les salaires sont plus élevés en France. . Les répercussions du mouvement de main d'oeuvre frontalière franco-belge sont importantes et diverses, et elles se font sentir aussi bien sur l'économie française que sur l'économie belge ; en particulier elles pèsent fortement sur la balance des paiements, pouvant même entraver des mouvements de marchandises.
