Abstract

In the past several years the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline became one of the most controversial issues and was strongly criticized by the current American administration. Significant changes on the global natural gas market, such as the United States as a net gas exporter, have increased the necessity to evaluate the real impact of the Nord Stream 2 construction and American opposition to the project on the transatlantic energy cooperation, particularly the trade in natural gas. The research analyzes the current state of Russia-EU energy cooperation and the changes expected after the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 as well as the US opposition to the project. The scope of the analysis also includes the forecasts of the natural gas demand and supply development in the European Union and main trends in the global LNG market.
