Konvergence a klíčové ekonomické proměnné: případ Slovinska[Convergence and Key Economic Variables: A Case of Slovenia]

With the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1991, convergence has become a key focus of the European debate. Fiscal and monetary criteria laid down at Maastricht are viewed as being precondition to the transition to the final and third phase of the EMU. Economic policy after independence followed these priorities and targets in Slovenia, with the main focus on regaining and strengthening internal balance. Current economic trends point to good short and long term prospects, so convergence debate is becoming a key concern. In this paper we will discuss Slovenian entry to the EU by comparing its recent economic performance with relevant economic criteria. The paper is organized as follows. Section 1 and 2 discusses Slovenian income and trade performance and its trade with EU, Section 3 compares current Slovenian monetary and fiscal record with Maastricht criteria and Section 4 concludes.
