Why is there still a war? On the latent meaning of war aggression
[Proč pořád ještě válka? K latentnímu smyslu válečné agresivity]

Abstract

The article updates Sigmund Freud's thoughts on the instinctual roots of war violence, especially as presented in his essay Why War. To capture the significance of contemporary transformations in the field of destructiveness, the concept of destructive revolution is proposed, the terminological capture of which is intended to point to an analogy with the process known as the sexual revolution. A key aspect of the hypothetical ongoing destructive revolution is to be the recognition that destruction can cause pleasure and that among the basic destructive manifestations is self-aggression. The purpose of the considerations presented here is to offer a perspective from which war violence appears as a counterproductive diversion of the energy of our instinctual drives from their adequate goals.
