Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explore intangibility of the concept of information, and consider the consequences which spring from the intangibility. In the introductory part, there is thematised the relation between two different modes of consciousness, which were identified by Bergson in Time and Free Will. The paper analyses the aspects of consciousness that are related to verbal representation, and to discrete, quantitative and formally-analytical way of thinking. In addition, there are also discussed the aspects that corresponds to the qualitative experience of our subjectivity. Analogically with both modes of consciousness, there are deduced two different concepts of time (sequentiality, duration) and also the impenetrable barrier lying between these two viewpoints. Furthermore, there is hypothesized the overcoming of this barrier. The hypothesis considers possibility to distinguish subjectively experienced time by the medium of information. The concept of information is gradually unfolded and is based on the different attitudes of informational theoreticians. More thorough insight into exploration of the nature of information is provided by the fixation of several important assumptions. In addition, there is accented the specific way of occurrence of information, which is at the border of dualism of subject and object and the abovementioned modes of consciousness. Although the aim of the paper is not to coin a new, more accurate definition of information, the enlightenment of many problems and ambiguities is achieved. Consequently, there is a chance to utilise the potential of this concept and its problematic tangibility as a guide to overcome aforesaid dualisms.
