Memorie si monument in context urban contemporan

Abstract

Desi manifestarea modernismului in arhitectura si intentia lui de a sterge tot ceea ce apartinea trecutului parea pana de curand sa conduca la o stergere completa a memoriei din cadrul urban, totusi ultimele decenii au facut loc unui nou tip de reconsiderare a acesteia. Astfel, mai ales orasele care pana atunci fusesera orientate exclusiv catre progresismul modernist isi directioneaza astazi atentia spre comemorare. Acest fapt se traduce in prezent prin interesul crescand al arhitectilor pentru proiectele ce au in vedere monumente, memoriale si alte forme de evocare a traumei, de cristalizarea din ce in ce mai vizibila a unor forme de recompensare a victimelor trecutului si de cresterea numarului de muzee, pentru ca orasele de maine sa nu mai repete erorile trecutului. Astfel, prin rolul sau, monumentul/ memorialul/ situl comemorativ este reprezentarea fizica a relatiei dintre discursul istoric si memoria individuala si colectiva. El isi propune, prin mijloacele sale specifice (conceptie, forma, textura, amplasament, inscriptii etc.) sa reaminteasca, sa faca apel la memorie, pentru a evoca evenimente, persoane sau valori ce au o semnificatie profunda pentru o comunitate. In acelasi timp, el poate deveni o foarte interesanta metoda de a observa si intelege relatia interactiva dintre memorie, istorie si a ne explica prezentul in forma in care el ne apare astazi, ajutand la construirea unui viitor coerent.
