Regional analysis of public sector employment

Abstract

Presents results of the analysis and an explanation of the methodology and limitations of the estimatesThis article presents analysis of public sector employment by region, with time series since 1999, consistentwith the official UK figures which are based on data supplied by public sector organisations. While figures are alreadyavailable for Scotland and Northern Ireland on this basis, information from the Labour Force Survey is used to estimatethe breakdown required for Wales and the English regions. This article includes commentary on the results as well asan explanation of the methodology and limitations of these estimates.
