Whither Africa?

Abstract

Africa has achieved tremendous growth rates in recent years – the more impressive against the backdrop of a global financial crisis that mutated into a global recession. Jacqueline Chimhanzi asks what lies behind the veneer of Africa's growth? What is the way forward? She argues that African growth is not yet benefiting Africans. The current growth that Africa is realizing is jobless, not inclusive and not shared and with a population estimated at 2 billion by 2050, Africa could well be headed for a disaster.
