Abstract

Randa Farah provides a corrective to the stereotypical images portrayed in the West of Palestinian women. Based on fieldwork conducted in the late 1990s in al-Baq'a refugee camp, she underscores how women defend and reproduce notions of ‘women’, ‘home’ and ‘homeland’ to generate further debate and contribute to the dialogue on women's role in carving, defending and re-appropriating places. Development (2002) 45, 93–98. doi:10.1057/palgrave.development.1110325
