Abstract

Winifred Armstrong and Raewyn Peart ask if South Africa is ‘ahead of the curve’ because of its incorporation of the importance of conservation into its constitution and its linkage of environment, economic and social policy as a basis for policy. Their article is a partial ‘photograph of a moving object’ examining the policies, legislation and court interpretations South Africans are putting into place as they take on board environmental concerns. Development (2000) 43, 75–78. doi:10.1057/palgrave.development.1110200
