Abstract

Jane Lowicki and Allison Pillsbury describe the plight of war-affected adolescents, a vulnerable group whose particular education, livelihood, health, psychosocial and protection needs, and rights, are too often overlooked. They document the gaps and challenges in meeting their needs and highlight the framework that exists for addressing these needs. The article provides a few examples of significant efforts on behalf of adolescents affected by armed conflict, including the importance of recognizing their resilience and utilizing their participation in developing programmes. It also makes an argument for the effectiveness of collaborative action for adolescents by governmental donors, in co-operation with other actors, and asserts that such work should be expanded and increased.
