«Se nos desconoce y se nos ignora como país turístico». El problema de la propaganda turística en Chile entre 1929 y 1959

Abstract

El artículo analiza cómo funcionó la promoción estatal de la industria turística entre 1929 y 1959, momento en que el Estado se preocupó por primera vez de su organización. A través del análisis de medios de comunicación, oficios ministeriales y discusiones parlamentarias, aparecen las falencias que mostraba el sistema de propaganda del turismo nacional en el exterior, así como el rol y las tareas que debieron asumir tanto los cónsules, actuando como agentes bisagra en la promoción del turismo, como los comisionados de propaganda, actores que durante una década estuvieron presentes en la promoción del turismo nacional sin criterios claramente establecidos por la autoridad.
