La agriculturización del desierto. Estado, riego y agricultura en el norte de México (1925-1970)

Abstract

Mercados en expansión, tecnologías derivadas de la segunda revolución industrial,apremiantes necesidades gubernamentales y lo que podría denominarse unapolítica de Estado hicieron posible en el México postrevolucionario la construcciónde grandes sistemas de irrigación. Mediante ello, la frontera agrícola logróexpandirse durante el siglo XX en millones de hectáreas. Este trabajo dedicaespecial atención a los planes que llevaron a poner en marcha dichos sistemasde irrigación en el norte del país, un espacio multirregional que ocupa cerca del60% del territorio mexicano y cuya principal característica es la aridez.
