Grupo Gerdau: la construcción de un competidor global

Abstract

El Grupo Gerdau es hoy una de las más grandes corporaciones brasileñas multinacionalizadas. El objetivo general del artículo es interpretar lainternacionalización de este grupo, teniendo por hipótesis que la inversiónextranjera directa (IED) es un «desagüe» del potencial de crecimiento de laempresa, así como la diversificación de sus actividades, cuyos objetivos son labúsqueda de mercados, recursos naturales, eficiencia y activos estratégicos.Los resultados encontrados confirman la hipótesis, demostrando que, a cadalimitación de crecimiento, nueva IED y nuevas diversificaciones fueron necesarias,llevando el grupo a la posición 14 en el ranking del mercado acerero mundial.
