La minería mexicana: el ocaso de un modelo nacionalista

Abstract

Analizo en este artículo los principales procesos que han tenido lugar en la minería mexicana durante las dos últimas décadas. En un contexto internacional de expansión de los mercados y de un boom de los precios mineros, el Estado mexicano ha optado por liberalizar la legislación en materia de otorgamiento de concesiones, fomentar una apertura irrestricta al capital extranjero (especialmente canadiense), favorecer incondicionalmente a los monopolios mineros mexicanos y desencadenar una embestida de desprestigio y desarticulación del sindicalismo minero. Este modelo de crecimiento minero ha provocado no solo protestas obreras, sino también demandas de organizaciones civiles y de comunidades indígenas y campesinas afectadas por los impactos ambientales provocados por la actividad minera.
