El imperio Prado (1890-1970): ¿oligarquía o burguesía nacional?

Abstract

El proceso de formación, auge y decadencia del grupo económico-familiar de los Prado, probablemente el grupo con mayor influencia económica y poder político del Perú hasta 1970, constituye el argumento central del presente estudio. ¿Fueron los Prado un grupo oligárquico o los representantes de una burguesía nacional? Poniendo especial énfasis en los aspectos económicos, el autor busca responder a esta interrogante cuantificando y analizando las bases materiales de la enorme influencia que este grupo tuvo en el mundo de los negocios. Asimismo, intenta determinar cuáles fueron sus prioridades de inversión y qué tipo de transformaciones fueron experimentando sus estrategias empresariales a lo largo de las ocho décadas en que se mantuvieron en actividad.
