Abstract

Mariátegui, en enero de 1927, envió una carta al escritor argentino Samuel Glusberg en la que esbozó algunas líneas autobiográficas, raras y escasas en el conjunto de sus escritos. Fue en esa carta donde estableció una nítida distinción entre el período de su vida anterior a 1919 y el período posterior a 1923; en otras palabras, antes y después de Europa: la edad de piedra enfrentada a la edad de la razón; el socialista contrapuesto al adolescente decadente y bizantino. Lógicamente las mayores referencias proporcionadas a Glusberg fueron dedicadas a su etapa de madurez. Los años de su iniciación como escritor, el tiempo durante el cual firmara sus artículos con el seudónimo de Juan Croniqueur.
