Abstract

Based on the tremendous advances made in IT&C, instantaneous communications around the world have become ubiquitous and extremely cheap. Sparked by these developments, more and more organizations began to change their cultures and started to rely on work done in a virtual environment, rather than in “brick-and-mortar” offices like before. The advantages for both employees and companies are numerous, and therefore this trend is clearly gaining momentum. This paper aims to analyze some of the elements that characterize virtual teams and virtual organizations, as they will clearly play an increasing role in tomorrow’s business world. Another question we are aiming at answering is whether leadership in such an environment is different from a more traditional one, and if this is the case, to highlight what some of this differences might be.
