Abstract

Food quality is a concern because it directly affects the health of the population. In Romania, fruits, vegetables, fish, milk and dairy products consumption is even lower than nutritional recommendations resulting in a lower contribution to the need of nutrients such as potassium, calcium, vitamin D, polyunsaturated fatty acids and therefore reasons for concern to ensure the health of population. It is recommended the consumption of the so-called „dense nutrients” which provide vitamins, minerals and other substances with favorable effects on health but low in calories, such as: vegetables (except for potatoes), fruits, whole grains, milk and other dairy products partially or completely defatted, fish and sea fruits, lean meat and chicken meat, eggs, legumes, fruits, prepared without added solid fats, sugar, starch and salt.
