Abstract

The carbon footprint (CF) in the tourism sector constitutes a crucial quantitative yardstick. This paper develops a three-dimensional tourism CF model and analyzes Gansu Province’s data from 2000 to 2020. The tourism CF increased from 5.82 million tons in 2000 to a peak 20 times higher in 2019, then dropped to 65.04 million tons in 2020 due to COVID-19. The tourism carbon capacity fluctuated and increased from 2.33 to 4.12 million tons. All TCF3D values exceeded 1, showing a continuous deficit. After predicting and fitting relevant data with the ARIMA model, suggestions for low-carbon tourism are put forward.
