原語から直訳された新奇な隠喩文の即時的な理解 = Comprehending novel metaphors directly translated from their original languages

Abstract

外国語でよく使われるが日本語にはない隠喩文が実験材料として使われた． 実験の目的は，喩辞と被喩辞との間の未知の意味関係がどのように見つけだされるか， 調べることである． 実験1では，文脈に解釈を誘導された新奇な隠喩文の理解を調べた．その結果， 新奇な隠喩文の理解は，慣用的な隠喩文の理解より長くかかった．このことから， 両者の処理過程が同じである可能性が示唆される． 実験2では，問題の文と意味的関連性のある文の後に置かれた新奇な隠喩文の理解を 調べた．被験者に字義通りの意味での真偽判断(Glucksberg, Gildea, & Bookin, 1982)を 行ってもらった．実験2の結果は実験1の結果と同じ傾向を示した．新奇な隠喩文を理解する場合 であっても，慣用的な隠喩文を理解するのと同じくらい早く隠喩的な処理が始まるが， 新奇な隠喩文は慣用的な隠喩文ほど解釈を見つけだすことができないことが分かった． 実験1，2の結果から，新奇な隠喩文に対する場合と慣用的な隠喩文に対する場合とで 隠喩的な理解の仕方に違いはないと結論された．実験1，2を通して，原語がポーランド語である場合と 中国語である場合とで，隠喩として理解に有意な違いはまったく認められなかった． このことから，隠喩としての良さが言語普遍的な基盤を持っている可能性も示唆された．
