Abstract

Vor dem Hintergrund der aktuellen Verwerfungen auf den globalen Finanzmärkten und der Erfahrung folgenschwerer Bilanzskandale stellt sich die „World of Finance“ wie auch die interessierte Öffentlichkeit zunehmend die Frage, was das Testat des Wirtschaftsprüfers in der heutigen Zeit noch wert ist. Der vorliegende Beitrag erörtert die Möglichkeiten und die Grenzen des Wirtschaftsprüfers, Bilanzmanipulationen und Vermögensschädigungen im Rahmen der Abschlussprüfung eines Unternehmens oder Konzerns aufzudecken. Dabei wird sowohl auf die Anforderungen des deutschen Berufsstandes an die Durchführung einer Abschlussprüfung eingegangen als auch auf die internationalen Standards zur Durchführung von Prüfungen.
