Abstract

A change of theory and professional views on the role of procurement in overall business strategy is evident in the past few decades. Procurement is increasingly treated as an integrative strategic business function that connects all other functions, enables seamless execution of all business processes in the enterprise and fosters the creation of high added value that is based on improving relationships with suppliers. This paper will analyze the literature that explains the change in approaches to the procurement, and literature that emphasizes attitude to suppliers as a key business resource. Based on available literature and analysis of business examples, the steps in the evaluation of suppliers are going to be shown, which will prove that the continuous evaluation of the suppliers is the key in implementation of strategic procurement.
