Abstract

A market for ideas may be commonly viewed, more or less metaphorically, as being the infrastructure of cultural life. The cultural welfare of the communities depends on the “production and exchanges of ideas”, be they scientific or artistic, which, besides symbolic signalling, exhibit the same economic features as the goods and services they are embodied in. A market for ideas rests on property and prices.
