Les palmarès d'universités comme moyens d'action : Usages et abus

Abstract

Cet article porte sur le rôle et l’utilité des classements d’établissements d’enseignement supérieur, qui sont de plus en plus utilisés pour mesurer et comparer les résultats des universités. Nous présenterons dans un premier temps une vue d’ensemble ainsi qu’une typologie de ces palmarès et analyserons par la suite les controverses qu’ils suscitent, notamment les fondements et la diversité des critiques exprimées, la valeur des indicateurs employés pour évaluer la qualité et les conditions pouvant favoriser ou désavantager les universités dans ces exercices. En conclusion, nous examinerons les implications que les classements d’universités peuvent avoir sur les politiques nationales et sur les pratiques des établissements, dans les pays en développement comme dans les pays industrialisés.
