Integration Between City Logistics and City Planning

Abstract

In the context of unprecedented global urbanization and the exponential growth of e-commerce, urban freight transport generates severe negative externalities, including heavy traffic congestion, air quality deterioration, and an increased risk of traffic accidents. The study examines the critical need to transition from fragmented sectoral policies to holistic approaches that integrate Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) and Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans (SULP). Contemporary theoretical concepts such as “logistics sprawl†, the spatial typology of urban logistics spaces (ULS), and freight-efficient land use (FELU) are analyzed in detail. Innovative paradigms such as the Physical Internet and hyperconnected urban logistics are also discussed. Special attention is given to the complex methodological apparatus based on Agent-Based Modeling and multi-criteria analysis, as well as the role of digital technologies, autonomous vehicles, and the Internet of Things (IoT) in optimizing urban distribution networks.
