Abstract

The high demand for professional workers in elderly care service provision and early education of young children leads to the question, how the supply of care workers and the quality of work can be guaranteed in the future. Based on finished as well as ongoing research projects funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation the article describes the status quo of employment in the fields of elderly care and early childhood education and the structure of employees’ qualification. Furthermore it presents four strategies how employees can be integrated into or kept in this segment of the labour market and how they could enhance their position and skills.
