Männerpolitik und Antifeminismus

Abstract

Anti-feminist men’s rights campaigners want to keep or revive old privileges in gender relations. They disseminate conspiracy theories about a supposed “nanny state” that one-sidedly promotes and prefers women and claim that gender equality has long been achieved and it can now be said that men are disadvantaged. Together with fundamentalist Christians, supported by key elements of conservative media and programmatically taking up the theme, the Alternative Party of Germany (AfD – Partei Alternative für Deutschland), is stirring up feelings against the quota for women, abortion and “gender madness”. In this changing environment gender policy needs to reposition. The picture, above all presented on the internet, of confrontational men’s rights activists does not represent the majority of the “men’s movement” in Germany. Representatives of emancipated and dialogue-oriented men’s policies, as represented in the Bundesforum Männer (the federal association of men and men’s policies) work in cooperation with women’s associations and organisations.
