Abstract

The article presents the results of two representative establishment surveys on ‘working time reduction for long-term further vocational training’, conducted by the IAB (Institute for Employment Research). The main focus is on the presentation of binomial probit regressions that are intended to provide information on how organisational establishment characteristics affect the assessment of long-term vocational training and the willingness to take over the costs. Significant effects can be identified, depending on the size of the company or in specific economic sectors, but also for companies that expect rising employment levels. The surveys paint an overall positive attitude towards shorter working hours in favour of long-term vocational training, but this is only partly determined by organisational characteristics.
