Abstract

Der Beitrag setzt sich - vor dem Hintergrund des bundesdeutschen Alterungsprozesses - mit den Zusammenhängen zwischen den Größen Demografie und Einkommensungleichheit im Querschnitt auseinander. Hierbei fokussiert er auf die Rolle der Demografie bei der Erklärung der gemessenen Einkommensungleichheit, indem grundlegende Wirkmechanismen und Übertragungskanäle zwischen Demografie und Einkommensungleichheit thematisiert werden. Dies beinhaltet mithilfe einer Shift-share-Analyse auf Basis des Sozioökonomischen Panels einen eigenen empirischen Beitrag zur Debatte. Die entsprechenden Schätzungen offenbaren stärkere Einflüsse der indirekten als der direkten demografischen Ungleichheitseinflüsse. Für die Zukunft wird bis 2015 - auf der Grundlage einfacher Trendextrapolationen - ein (deutliche) Anstieg der Einkommensungleichheit als Folge der Alterung der bundesdeutschen Bevölkerung berechnet. Die komparativ-statische Vorgehensweise des Artikels erweiternd, sollten künftige Ansätze zur Erfassung der indirekten demografischen Ungleichheitseinflüsse möglichst auf dynamische allgemeine (OLG-)Gleichgewichtsmodelle rekurrieren.in: WSI-Mitteilungen 1/2011, Seiten 19-26
