Macro Matters: Der Makroökonomische Dialog der Europäischen Union

Abstract

Zur Krisenbewältigung hat die makroökonomische Politik wieder eine aktiv gestaltende Rolle übernommen. "Macro matters!" - diese wieder gewonnene Erkenntnis eröffnet zugleich neue Chancen, die in Europa seit Langem bestehenden Wachstums- und Beschäftigungsprobleme unter Wahrung der Preisstabilität zu lösen. Gerade unter den institutionellen Bedingungen der Europäischen Wirtschafts- und Währungsunion kann der im Juni 1999 unter deutscher Präsidentschaft vom Europäischen Rat in Köln eingerichtete Makroökonomische Dialog (MED) hierzu wesentlich beitragen. Ein neuer Anlauf, der auf den bisherigen Erfahrungen und dem zwischenzeitlich entstandenen Vertrauen aufbaut, kann und muss das makroökonomische Kooperationspotenzial über die Überwindung der aktuellen Krise hinaus stärker aktiv gestaltend nutzen, um dem Mandat des MED zu entsprechen und die Möglichkeiten zu mehr Beschäftigung auf der Grundlage eines starken und nichtinflationären Wachstums voll zu verwirklichen.
