Abstract

Der WSI-Mindestlohnbericht gibt einen aktuellen Überblick über die Entwicklung gesetzlicher Mindestlöhne in Europa und den USA. Auf Basis der WSI-Mindestlohndatenbank werden sowohl Daten zur aktuelle Höhe der Mindestlöhne als auch zu den Entwicklungstrends im Zeitraum 2000-2008 präsentiert. In den meisten europäischen Ländern verlief die Entwicklung der Mindestlöhne seit 2000 äußerst dynamisch mit Erhöhungen, die teilweise deutlich über denen der Durchschnittslöhne lagen. 2008 ist jedoch eine Trendwende erkennbar: Die Mindestlöhne wuchsen deutlich langsamer. Trotzdem bleiben Mindestlöhne ein wichtiges Instrument, um der aktuellen Wirtschaftskrise entgegenzuwirken. Dies spiegeln die - hier exemplarisch nachgezeichneten - Debatten auf nationaler und europäischer Ebene wider, in denen die mittelfristige Anhebung der Mindestlöhne relativ zu den nationalen Durchschnittslöhnen als Ziel formuliert wird.
