Ambivalenzen der (De-)Aktivierung: Altwerden im flexiblen Kapitalismus

Abstract

Der gesellschaftliche Blick auf ältere Menschen, die aus dem Erwerbsleben ausgeschieden sind, hat sich deutlich gewandelt. Angesichts der virulenten Debatten über den demografischen Wandel in Form einer "Überalterung" der Gesellschaft und unter Verweis auf die sich verschiebenden Alterungsprozesse weicht das Bild vom "wohlverdienten Ruhestand" Überlegungen, wie ältere Menschen ihren Beitrag zur Bewältigung der Herausforderungen des flexiblen Kapitalismus leisten können. Rentenbezug bedeutet somit nicht mehr die rollenlose Rolle des Ruheständlers, sondern die des "best ager", dessen Lebensführung zu der eines idealtypischen "Aktivbürgers" wird. Aufgrund der alterswissenschaftlichen, medialen und politischen Entproblematisierung des Aktivitätsideals einerseits und der weitgehenden Ausblendung älterer Menschen in der Aktivierungsforschung andererseits wird diesem gesellschaftlichen Phänomen jedoch bislang kaum kritische Aufmerksamkeit zuteil. Der Beitrag diskutiert die Ambivalenzen dieser Entwicklung.
