Abstract

Providing public services within the framework of municipal services of general interest is undergoing a far-reaching transformation. Triggered by digitalisation and its accompanying social change, new ways need to be found to provide a contemporary range of services of general interest in the digital space as well. Using the example of the digitalisation of Lübeck's public schools by the Stadtwerke Lübeck Group, the authors demonstrate that a completely new pillar of modern services of general interest must be established in order to meet the requirements. Digital infrastructure, data management and the provision of know-how in the use of digital media are elementary of the necessary "digital services of general interest". It accounts for several sustainable development goals (SDG).
