Abstract

First the article makes it clear in which way the topic of “social welfare/the common good” is addressed in the social economy discussion and in legal, political and economic discourses. Afterwards, it will be critically examined what significance and what knowledge potential is associated with the term “social welfare/the common good”. From this critical analysis the necessity of “pluralising the common good” is derived. The resulting differentiated understanding of “social welfare/the common good” is finally placed in the policy context in order to make it accessible for more realistic analyses and design recommendations in the context of public management research.
