La OMC y las subvenciones pesqueras

Abstract

La pesca excesiva es una situación que afecta a todos los países del mundo y las subvenciones permitidas pueden para este rubro acrecentar esta problemática. Asimismo, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación señaló que las subvenciones han contribuido a que los efectos de la ampliación de la jurisdicción a las 200 millas no sean los deseados para mantener las pesquerías sostenibles, dando origen a un debate más profundo con respecto a las subvenciones otorgadas al sector pesquero. Las subvenciones pesqueras se caracterizan por causar consecuencias en el medioambiente, además de la distorsión de la relación competitiva en los mercados internacionales, por lo que la mayoría de los países Miembros de la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC) abogan por perfeccionar sus disciplinas incorporando estas particularidades que posibiliten la instauración de una pesca responsable.
